The best location for exploring Galicia
Hotel Scala’s privileged location makes it the ideal place for establishing your base camp during your visit to Galicia. We are located in the region called Terras de Iria, right on the Camino de Santiago. We are just a short distance from Padrón, a medieval town that is the cradle of the pilgrimage to Santiago and the gateway to the Rías Baixas coastline, apart from the home of the famous Herbón peppers and the municipal district where Rosalía de Castro died or Camilo José Cela was born. We are also just a few kilometres from Santiago de Compostela, the destination of the Camino route and a World Heritage City. The N-550 road, which links Santiago and Pontevedra, passes by our front door; it also leads to the slip road accessing the AP-9 motorway connecting Galicia from north to south. We likewise have a spacious carpark for our clients. ¡You will not find a better-connected hotel with so many options nearby for enjoying Galicia’s nature, heritage, and cuisine! ¡Welcome everyone!"

You cannot leave Padrón without visiting its Sunday market, which is the largest in Galicia. Sunday after Sunday, the places known as Paseo del Espolón and Campo do Souto, which surround the “plaza de abastos” (food market), are filled with more than six hundred stands where you can find all kinds of typical products, as well as seasonal local produce from the area’s vegetable gardens, such as fruit and vegetables, bread and pies, cheese and cured meat... as well as a wide variety of articles, such as textiles, plants and crafts. The traditional way to round off a visit to the market is by enjoying the famous “pulpo á feira” (Galician-style octopus) at one of the octopus stands.

The suggested routes are full-day excursions, which are easy to follow on your own. In some cases, we suggest restaurants in order to guide our clients. However, we recommend that you check beforehand to make sure they fit in with your budget and tastes.
