For those who like and have tried a good lamprey, they know that there are few places like Padrón to enjoy it. As we told you in our last post about this ancient dish, the situation of the region with respect to the river Ulla is privileged and essential for the acquisition of the best specimens.
Due to the growing celebrity of this dish, Turismo de Galicia is promoting this year the so-called "Lamprea Route". A tour of the different zones and rivers where the fishing and processing of the lamprey pass every year to the order of the day for these dates. In the proposal, the points with culture more "lampreeira" are indicated along the banks of the river Tambre, of the Miño, and of not, of the Ulla.
The Ulla River has been living for thousands of years with this prehistoric animal, thanks, among other things, to the abundance of salmon and trout in its waters. It was the Romans who built the first structures adapted for their fishing (called fishing) and still continue to be used today. It is one of the points included in the route of Padrón, which also passes through emblematic places of this medieval town, such as the Franciscan Convent of Santo Antonio de Herbon, the centennial oak tree, and the green plantations of Herbón peppers. It is precisely said that it was the monks of this convent, who introduced the famous peppers brought from America and began to cultivate in this land.
Lamprey, peppers ... does not your mouth water? The "Ruta de la lamprea" also refers to a selection of the best restaurants to enjoy this tasty dish, which includes the Grill O'Pazo. In O'Pazo, we celebrate each year the lamprey days, in which our chef Oscar Vidal elaborates different recipes for the delight of his diners. Among its specialties, the legendary lamprey to Bordeaux, the lamprey to the ember with caramelized bacon and egg yolk, and on puree of tubers and vinaigrette of fruits and vegetables. In addition to this, in the restaurant Asador O'Pazo you can also enjoy other recipes prepared from products and specialties of Galicia, such as peppers, beef, seafood or seafood from our estuaries.
