Pepper of Herbón-Padrón is perhaps the best known product in our area. At present, some 14 hectares of greenhouse are devoted to the cultivation of pepper, and about 20 hectares of open-air land, with an annual production of approximately 1.3 million kilos.
For this reason, this product has its own gastronomic festival that is celebrated on the first Saturday of August in the parish of Herbon, specifically in the carballeira of the convent .. To this parish patron saint is where the plant of this fruit arrived for the first time, brought From American lands more than 600 years ago. The celebration, declared Festival of Tourist Interest of Galicia, had its first edition in 1978.
In its XXXIX edition, the program will take place from 10.30 am with a country mass, followed by a motorized agricultural procession to Padrón and the consequent awarding of the prizes to the tractors. The tastings, stronghold of the celebration, will be offered from 13.30 h.At two o'clock in the afternoon the vermouth session enlivened by the Trio Union y Fuerza will begin and at night the verbena will continue in the football field of Herbon, with the orchestra Suavecito.
