On Saturday May 7 will take place at the Hotel Scala Padron, a meeting of palilleiras Galicia. Throughout the whole day, craftswomen from salons all over the region, will conduct a demonstration of the art of ancient roots.
And this technique long back ago, in the case of Galicia, it is known that learning tatting began to become popular in the sixteenth century thanks to the prosperity of the market with the ports of Belgium and the Netherlands, and especially Flanders.
This lace textile art enjoyed a great reception in the region, which was gradually developed to improve, and even coming to settle in the Galician culture and customs.
For example, it was at that time when they were born the first "you palilladas", in which palilleiras gathered at the doors of houses to work, a tradition that still stands today.
Yarns, linen, silk, wool, cotton, or many other synthetic or natural fabrics, they fit together with each other through a Valls between sticks and pins, to make all kinds of scarves, tablecloths, accessories for clothing, lingerie, sheets, ect.
The technique reached its peak in the mid-eighteenth century, thanks largely to its popularity and demand among higher social classes, which led to a level of complexity and optimum improvement in their designs, getting itself even to convert to Galicia in a region export reference to national and international level.
And so to the present day in which, as happens this Saturday at our hotel in Padron, the palilleiras continue to organize their palilladas, which have evolved into large halls, and concocting authentic jewels lace.
If you want to see a sample of what they are capable of doing palilleiras, we'll be waiting in the morning and afternoon of Saturday at the Hotel Scala.
