In Padrón we are totally immersed in Christmas, and from Grupo Hotel Scala we are looking forward to receive you so that you can enjoy with us some of the most traditional Christmas plans. And is that if there is something typical of Christmas, that is the trees, the garlands, the lights and, above all, the nativity scenes. And at the Hotel Scala we have it all!
Just 10 minutes drive from our facilities is the town of Valga, well known at this time because in it is built, since 1995, the largest "belén" in Galicia. This birth, which in 2013 was named as the "Festival of Tourist Interest" of the community, is formed by more than 3,000 figures distributed in a space of 250 square meters. But in addition to its size and mechanized parts, what makes it a truly special nativity are its representations.
At birth, in addition to the typical desert print, the palm trees, the portal with the child or the offerings of the Kings and the shepherds, visitors will find typical samples of the popular culture of the Galician countryside: the slaughter of the pig, Harvesting and the elaboration of the wine, the gathering of the wheat, the traditional dances and games or the walks of the "Santa Compaña".
In addition, the Valga's Belén is full of figures of celebrities, traditional and topical, from Galicia and International: in their space Rosalía de Castro co-exist with the electoral debates, Castelao with Belén Esteban or the Spanish Soccer Team. Each year the characters change, and among them is one of the favorite attractions of tourists to visit the building: find the occult celebrity. Whoever gets it and gets his identity, you can take home one of the pieces of the birth.
Another peculiarity of this crib is that it is completely handmade: everything is handmade by neighbors, often with recycled materials, and everything changes every year. Decorations and figures are made of paper, plaster, modeling paste, wire, wood, stone and cloth. Motors are reused of windshield wipers, toothbrushes and other electrical utensils. To make it possible to mount the birth, about 8,000 bulbs are used, 30,000 meters of cables and several water pumps, and atmospheric phenomena such as rain, snow or thunder are achieved with a computer and a programmer.
For all of this, about 40 thousand people visit each year the facilities in which the nativity scene is located. If you also want to know it, discover our offers or our special Promotion of New Year, with accommodation, dinner and breakfast at the Hotel Scala for only € 135. Do not miss it!
