Padrón is a small town that couldn't pass disappeared within the Galician geography, and that offers a great amount of monuments in which to be satiated of culture. This famous writer, Camilo José Cela, chose the land that saw him grow to create the Foundation that now houses all his work, manuscripts, private collections and his own life. This building of 11,000 m2 is an 18th century house built for the residence of canons in Iria Falvia where you can visit a library of more than 45,000 volumes, a gallery with more than 700 paintings, a paraninfo, classrooms and rooms Of exhibitions, and an extensive garden area.
House Museum Rosalía de Castro.
In this space you can enjoy a tour of the events that marked the life and work of the most recognized Galician writer, Rosalía de Castro. The ground floor of the building is dedicated to the life of the author, the environment in which he moved and his relationship with the Galician people. On the upper floor you can appreciate the representation of a rural house of the time with a style that moves between the peasant and the hidalgo. This house, next to the garden that surrounds it, recreates a period space of great beauty being one of the most important gardens of the Galician community.
This beautiful private property is an urban palace between the streets of the historic quarter of Padrón in great harmony with the medieval atmosphere of the area. This architectural work was constructed in 1666 by Melchor Velasco Agüero and in it inhabited Alonso de la Peña and Montenegro, bishop of Santiago and rector of the University of this same city.
It is a neoclassical style building in which you can also see remains of previous temple uprisings. Inside you can find different altars and walls with elements of the Jacobean tradition and the Santiago Apostle. In the main altar is the Pedron, a Roman altar dedicated to the god Neptune, and a place to which according to the Jacobean tradition was tied the boat that brought the remains of the Apostle James and his disciples Theodore and Athanasius from Palestine.
It is the first convent of barefoot Carmelites existing in Galicia. It was founded in the middle of the XVIII century by the religious Maria Antonia de Jesus of noble family native of the Villa of Cuntis. The main façade is decorated with an image of the Virgen del Carmen, by the sculptor Gambino. In the church, simple and somber in neoclassical style, the main altar is embellished by an image of the Virgin of Carmen, the work of the sculptor Fabeiro.
