Do you like walks? Hiking is one more form of tourism and one that the most active appreciate by putting a little activity on their days off. Today we will tell you about 3 routes and paths through Padrón: Ruta Rosaliana, the Portuguese Way and the Camino de la Pedronía.
Rosalía de Castro, the most representative writer of Galicia, was born in Santiago but spent a large part of her life in Padrón, a place where she also spent her last days. The Ruta Rosaliana is, therefore, an itinerary that follows the life of the writer from her birth to where her ashes are.
The route passes through the municipalities of: Ames, Brión, Dodro, Padrón and Santiago on the banks of the Sar river. Within our villa, the points of interest are the Rosalía de Castro House Museum (where the poetess spent the last years of her life), Santa María la Mayor de Iria Flavia and Adina Cemetery (where Rosalía was buried for 6 years ), our Pazo Arretén, which previously belonged to Rosalía's maternal ancestors and the Statue of Espolón and the house where she grew up.
The Camino de Santiago has multiple variants, do you know which is our favorite? We have told you on several occasions: the Portuguese Way. This is the second busiest, and it is that, when entering Galicia from Tui, it runs through the south of Galicia and therefore the most populated area of the community, the Rías Baixas. The last stop, before reaching Compostela, will be in Padrón (and therefore, we hope, the Hotel Scala). After so many kilometers, upon your arrival you will be impressed by the beautiful Cathedral of Santiago.
Once the Camino de Santiago is finished, the route continues. Well, if you make a pilgrimage to Padrón you can obtain the Pedronía diploma. And it is that, The old medieval Jacobean tradition says that the pilgrims, after visiting the tomb of the Apostle in Compostela, made a pilgrimage to Padrón to know the sacred point of the disembarkation of his body. And this is what is known as the Camino de la Pedronía, did you know?
