The river Ulla and Sar, watering Padron and surroundings are excellent fishing grounds. The Sar River, which Rosalia de Castro dedicated a book, is a good area for trout fishing, but it is the Ulla river which in this case is the protagonist for its size. Born to 640 m altitude in Monterroso (Lugo) and flows into the Ria de Arousa, adding 132 km of travel. Its basin is the largest community after the Minho, 2,764 km2.
And the Nobel Prize for Literature Ernest Hemingway found the charm of the area in one of his three visits to Galicia. Miguelpesca.com as stated on his blog, Carlos Casares in his book Hemingway in Galicia that on the second visit of the writer in 1929:
"August 12, with new sunglasses, newspapers and a bag full of tomatoes and onions to eat, spent the day fishing by the Ulla river to reach the reservoir of the top. Back home through the way which would run the new railway, he stopped to prepare trout with country ham. He came back to the hotel at quarter past eleven p.m.. Pauline beside him in bed and a bottle of beer on the nightstand, he wrote, there were no fights in two days. "
